I'm Joe King, a community and social media management professional in the video games industry. Over my ten year career, I've worked for such names as Gearbox Software, GameStop, and, most recently, Tencent Games North America.

I'm currently building a community and social media consultancy and producing the Game Industry Job Hunt podcast while looking for my next full-time adventure.

2014-2019

Community, Social, Influencers

I started at Gearbox in 2014 as a community contractor helping to create our new forum platform using community feedback, and monitoring sentiment and online conversations.

In 2016, I was hired on full-time to run community and social. During this time, I created weekly community game updates and daily social content, traveled as a part of the live event support team, embedded with the Player Support team to create new processes, hosted semi-regular livestreams, and more. 

In 2018, I moved into an influencer management role, building and maintaining relationships with our ever-growing stable of content creators.

2019-2022

Senior Social Media Manager

I joined Gamestop in 2019 and was tasked with revamping their social strategy and approach. My goals were to build brand affinity and increase engagement.

I accomplished these objectives by adopting a new, more conversational brand voice and leveraging relevant internet "moments", memes, and brand interactions to increase engagement and reach.

Between this new approach and the company's stock acheiving "memestock" status, by the end of my tenure, the conversation around the brand had totally changed.

2022-2024

Senior Community Manager

In late 2021, I was recruited by Tencent to join their North America publishing team. After starting in May of 2022, I began leading global community strategy for the products I worked on.

I also helped to lead a team of community managers, social media managers, designers, and other creatives to execute our strategy, and served as the point-of-contact for our six regional teams around the globe.

I created processes, supported our Brand and Development teams, and traveled to industry events like Summer Game Fest and Gamescom.
